I've had quite a bit of e-mail about my column on coverage of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. issue. A couple of points I've heard multiple times:
1. I do not believe Wright's words are "taken out of context." They are indeed small parts of a larger sermon, whose message is a much broader critique of America failing to live up to its potential. That is definitely true, and of course Wright isn't saying things this inflammatory with his every breath. However, saying something is out of context means that the words actually have a different meaning when attached to others. That is clearly not the case here.
2. Several readers have said the whole thing is unreliable because it was a Fox News smear job. No -- the initial report was from Good Morning America, which is an ABC show. I also think people need to be very careful not to confuse any organization's news reports with its commentators.
